Featured Fansite: Los Wonderkids

Over the coming weeks and months we'll be paying homage to the whole host of Football Manager fansites that form the backbone of the FM community and contribute so invaluably to its success. The first of our featured fansite series kicks off with a relative newcomer to the scene, Los Wonderkids.

Los Wonderkids announced itself on the FM scene with somewhat of a bang last year and since then has already gone on to establish itself as one of the biggest and best FM fansites out there.

Offering pretty much everything from FM graphics to the very best in FM discussion, LW has become a hugely popular choice for FM aficionados. With 1,166 members at the last count, you’re sure to find plenty of discussion and daily activity around the place. So, what, you may wonder is the secret to their success? Well, there’s a fair few:

The LW Forums

Active and welcoming with a laid back ethos, the LW forums are always a great place to hang out. The staff team have done a sterling job on creating a friendly atmosphere in which members, both new and old, can feel comfortable posting in. You’ll find plenty of helping hands should you need it and if you, for some bizarre reason, ever become tired of discussing FM there’s plenty of threads about the latest film, news, games or latest news to immerse yourself in.

It’s also the place to be for online FM gaming challenges - with over 120 challenges to achieve in your game and rewards to gain; there really is something for everyone:

VersusFM (launching with FM10 demo)

The objective is simple; you play Football Manager 2010 and collect trophies and points for submitting completed challenges. Anyone can participate and you don't even have to be a member – just make sure you enjoy yourself!

There are 4 different kinds of trophies: Gold challenges are harder than Bronze for example and Joker challenges are all about having fun and doing something a little odd. The points tend to represent the difficulty of that challenge within that section although some sections have more points for different challenges. And what do points win? Yep, prizes. There’ll be FM goodies and game copies up for grabs.

The Playbook

Set to launch for FM10, this new feature promises to be a handy resource for FM gamers of all ages and experience. It’s kind of still under lock and key at the moment but when it’s out it will certainly be worth checking out for tips, scouting and tactical information.

What the Members Say

The best indication of a fansites success is the fact that the members keep coming back for more. So here are just some of the reasons that make those guys call LW their second home:

Footyslayer:
“The look of the site and the fact LW has imo the best skin on the scene”
“The staff and members”
“The ease and comfort to which you can post here”

SW:
“Enjoy discussion about music/films/general news/football manager. Just enjoy discussion with a variety of people really. Active forums, nice people, good times.”

Lucas:
“Great atmosphere, funny guys on here, great content and great fun”

alilane4:
“I come here mainly for the atmosphere. It's the one ethos that Game tried to bang on about when it opened. This ethos has remained like this and apart from a few little tiffles here and there but all together it's very laid back. The FM discussion is always pretty good and will, no doubt, liven up once the FM2010 demo is out.
Also the story section has been and is very strong. We have a lot of new and interesting stories in there.”

XeroX:
“LW = different. Different = original. Next year will be all about having fun with Football Manager. A lot of the time forums and sites get boring; typically LW is completely opposite to everyone else.”

Join the Fun

Heard enough and want to take a look for yourself? Then there’s no time like the present and with FM10 only a few weeks away you should drop by and get involved in the action. Los Wonderkids looks to set to go from strength to strength over the course of the FM10 season and much like Man City, they’re always looking for new recruits - http://loswonderkids.com
